Future to Launch Weekly Football Magazine for iPad
Future has announced the launch of Football Week, a new weekly iPad magazine that it is publishing in partnership with the Press Association.
The magazine, which is launching in early February, is aimed at global followers of the English Premier League, offering news, editorial features, player data and all the latest statistics. The publication will also be fully interactive, incorporating live feeds and updating stats and commentary as matches are being played.
The automatically updating live content is being provided by the Press Association, which has a strong track record of delivering live sports coverage. Future is also partnering with EA SPORTS, who are Football Week's official gaming partner, and with PhysioRoom.com, which will provide up-to-date injury news.
Mark Cantwell, the publisher of Football Week, said: "We truly believe this is the ultimate accompaniment to the weekend’s Premier League action. We have focussed on filling the gaps that traditional media like TV, Magazines and Websites leave behind, to put the consumer at the heart of everything we do and complete their weekend football experience. We are particularly proud of The Match Hub – it’s as live as it is possible to get and custom designed for the iPad."
Future's CEO Mark Wood added: "Football Week is a unique iPad product and a genuine first for Future. We are moving rapidly outside the boundaries of our traditional business and fusing the best aspects of print and web media together for the tablet. The Press Association has been the best partner possible for this new type of product and although their infrastructure and content are important it is their ambition and willingness to innovate with us that has been key."
First launched in 1978, Starburst is the world’s longest running sci-fi, horror and fantasy magazine, but the title had suspended print publication in 2009.
