Old Ben Homes provide sheltered rental accommodation for individuals from the UK newstrade. As a registered charity governed by a Board of Trustees from within the industry, Old Ben has proudly supported former newsagents, wholesalers, distributors, and their families since 1956. Today, around 60 residents are housed within Old Ben properties.

The charity manages two sheltered housing estates in England, offering a range of homes from one-bedroom self-contained apartments to two-bedroom houses and bungalows. In response to an ageing population and shortfall of affordable housing, Old Ben is committed to offering residents a home for life that supports them with independent living. 

Effective 1st May 2025, InterMedia’s Commercial and Marketing Director, Jamie Wren, will take his position as the newest trustee to join the team.

As a board of trustees for such an important function to those in the newstrade, it is incumbent on us to deliver a strategy for the future of the charity to protect the strong position that previous boards have delivered for the charity. Clear, strategic, thinking and decision making will define a successful and prosperous future to ensure that many more deserving newstrade people can benefit from the provision of a secure home.

Jamie Wren says: “Old Ben Homes has been a charity that I have admired for the many years I have worked in this industry. I feel privileged and honoured to play a part in delivering against its core values and strategic vision in the coming years and am grateful to the Board of Trustees for providing an opportunity to give something back to such a worthwhile cause.”

Old Ben Homes is a registered charity in England and Wales, run by a Board of Trustees, drawn from the UK newstrade. The company has been in existence since 1956, when plans arised for homes in Seaford, followed later by Lilleshall and Shropshire. Old Ben Homes works closely with the NewstrAid Benevolent Fund, who appoint up to five of the managing trustees.

The aim is to provide sheltered housing for people who have worked in the distribution of newspapers and magazines in the UK, and their immediate dependents.
