ABC Circulation Results Shows The Sun Had An ‘Exceptional’ July
Editor David Dinsmore commented “I am immensely proud of our scoops – from the historic royal footage, to the Lord Sewel revelations – confirming that The Sun and The Sun on Sunday remain ahead of our competitors both in sales and rattling out great stories”
The Sunday title made big sales with their “Lord Coke” and “Royal Heilnesses” stories, both featured in June, arguably the source behind the 5.4% month-on-month increase.
The News UK titles were also helped by bulk copies, The Sun distributing 11,720 and The Sun on Sunday 13,549. Both titles are considered the biggest newspapers in their respective markets.
Year-on-year, both titles saw a loss, however this was not uncommon in the figures. The Daily Star saw a decrease of 11.69% YoY, and the Sunday People, the worst performing newspaper overall, lost 17.93% YoY. Its sister title, The Times was again the best performing newspaper year-on-year, and it fell just 0.9% to 394,910.
David Dinsmore continues, “The Sun and The Sun on Sunday have had an exceptional month for stories and coverage of major events. This is reflected in the ABC figures.”
