It has been reported that Trinity Mirror Group has been blocked from making a bid to buy Local World.
Previously, it was reported that Trinity Mirror were looking to purchase Local World, publishers of the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and the Sunday People.
It was also recently reported that Trinity Mirror was looking to purchase Express Newspapers - publishers of the Daily Express, the Sunday Express and Daily Star titles.
It has now been reported that the chairman of the Yattendon Group, Lord Iliffe, has blocked Trinity Mirror from purchasing Local World.
In light of this, it is expected that Trinity Mirror will priorities the acquisition of Express Newspapers instead.
It is believed that Express Newspapers is worth between £70M and £80M, although owner Richard Desmond is expected to be looking for a higher price.
In 2014, Trinity Mirror reportedly made £8.7M from Local World, which is headed up by David Montgomery, former chief executive of Trinity Mirror.
Local World is backed by Odey Asset Management and Artefact Group.
